NYX Concealer in a Jar - Product Review

By

NYX Concealer in a Jar (BEIGE)

This is a hands-on review of the NYX Concealer in a Jar. Since I have been reading the reviews in Makeupalley.com, I really was excited to get my hands on one because it is rated 4.0 out of 5, and that is saying a lot. I normally use the concealer for my dark undereye circles which have been a problem for me for the longest time. I have occasional zits so I would use concealer also to cover them up.

I bought it online so it was kind of difficult to find out what my shade was since there was no way to test it. I have NW25-30 skin as per MAC, so I opted to choose the shade of Beige. I have read different blogs about the proper shades for different skin colors, and most NW30's and NW25's choose Beige. To be on the safe side, I chose this.

PRICE: This NYX Concealer in a Jar costs only $6. This is relatively cheap compared to the other brands that I have been using. I purchased it through Cherryculture.com's website.

It comes in a pot that holds 7 grams of product. As you could see, the packaging is simple and pretty straightforward. It comes with a twist cap cover.

APPLICATION: I use a concealer brush. If you don't have a concealer brush, you could use your fingertips. However, it is best to sanitize your hands first by washing or by using alcohol first before and after touching your concealer. Remember, you are applying it on your zits and under your eyes (or wherever you might need it), so don't cause cross-contamination.Tap gently on your skin, layer as desired by tapping and not rubbing. If you rub it, you just rub off the concealer.

CONSISTENCY: The concealer is creamy, and is not as thick as the other concealers that I have used. Check out my review on the MAC StudioFinish Concealer to compare. The pigmentation is good, but I felt that I had to layer it to be able to achieve a nice cover. It is very blendable, just make sure that your skin is well moisturized. Actually for undereye circles, I recommend using an eye cream first before using this product to lessen the possibility of the concealer going into the fine lines.

STAYING POWER: Without powder, I rate it at 6/10. It is creamy so it has to be set with powder, otherwise it will melt off surely on your skin. With powder, I rate it at 8/10. A good setting powder is needed to keep this on the skin. Retouching can be done after a few hours, and as long as the skin is quite moisturized, it can be retouched without too much caking. Make sure to blot your face first with a tissue or face blotter to remove excess oil to avoid caking up. If your skin is too dry, wash off the area you need to conceal, then moisturize again before putting this product on to avoid the concealer going to your mini-eye-wrinkles

WHAT I THINK OF IT : This is a good product, I'd give it an 8/10.

  • It is cheap
  • highly pigmented - only a small amount will do
  • small and easy to carry around in a small purse
  • Some people think this is a dupe of the MAC Studio Finish, but this is really an entirely different product.
  • This is highly blendable too
  • does not have SPF so there is no whitish cast!

Overall, this is a good product to cover up your blemishes and undereye circles. I recommend this for those who like good coverage but limited in budget.

Try it out !:)
